Wineries and Breweries
If you are a lover of fine wine and boutique beer, then the North East of Victoria is sure to appeal. An agricultural environment rich in fertile soils, clean water and an ideal seasonal climate coupled with growers passionate about what they do make for some world class product.
In particular, the King Valley is quickly gaining in reputation as a unique wine region for European varietals such as sangiovese, nebbiolo and barbera. With some of the highest altitude vineyards in Australia this area produces uniquely flavoured and memorable wines.
The historic Glenrowan Wine Region encompasses from Wangaratta over the Warby Ranges to Benalla and Tungamah. Red wines originating from here have a reputation for being full-bodied and powerful. Glenrowan is also well known for its fortified wines. Interestingly, legend has it that Ned Kelly assisted the Bailey family to plant their first grapevines!
